Hundreds Pay Respects To Fallen Trooper Kevin Miller; Funeral Is Friday
Apr 9, 2018A similar outpouring is expected at the East Hartford stadium on Friday at 11 a.m. for the funeral of Trooper First Class Kevin Miller, a 19-year state police veteran who was stationed at Troop C in Tolland.Miller was killed last week when his cruiser crashed into the back of tractor-trailer on I-84. He was 49 and father of a 10-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old son. The accident is still under investigation.“There have been representatives from dozens of law enforcement agencies both in and out of state today to include Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Wisconsin, Illinois, Texas, Indiana, New Jersey, California, Georgia and Florida,” state police spokesman Sgt Eric J. Hagland said Thursday in an email.The wake was held in two parts, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Friday at Rentschler Field, 615 Silver Lane in East Hartford.On Thursday morning, troopers took Miller’s body from a funeral home in Stafford Springs to Rentschler Field for the wake. The procession of troopers on motorcycles and in cars followed the hearse and made a brief stop at Troop C on Thursday morning.The procession led the hearse to the stadium, where a a massive American flag wafted in the breeze, suspended from an aerial ladder firetruck. Flags across the state were lowered to half staff to honor the fallen trooper.Miller, who was five months from retirement eligibility, was remembered as both a solid trooper and a good man.“He was a good trooper. I think he was a better man,” said Enfield Police Chief Alaric Fox, who left the top posting at state police earlier this year to lead the Enfield police force.“He always had a kind word, always respectful toward me,” Fox said. “He was not a kick-the-trash-can kind of guy. He went out there every day and did his job.
